Author Guidelines for Letters to the Editor Submitted to the Journal of Iranian Dental Association (JIDA)
1. Purpose and Scope
Letters to the Editor offer readers an opportunity to engage in scholarly dialogue by responding to previously published articles, raising awareness of emerging issues, or sharing brief insights and professional opinions relevant to the dental community. These letters should be concise, focused, and contribute constructively to ongoing discussions in clinical practice, research, education, or policy.
2. Length and Format
Submissions should not exceed 600 words and must be written in a clear, professional, and respectful tone. While the use of first-person voice is acceptable—particularly when reflecting on clinical experience or professional observations—authors should avoid personal attacks or inflammatory language. The content should center on a single theme or issue, and if responding to a published article, the letter must clearly reference the article’s title, author(s), and publication date.
3. Style and Tone
Although letters typically do not include figures or tables, one may be submitted if it is essential to support the commentary. References should be limited to five and formatted in Vancouver style, numbered sequentially in the order they appear in the text. Authors are encouraged to cite credible sources to support their claims and provide context for their arguments.
Authors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest and confirm that the letter has not been published or submitted elsewhere.
